If you haven’t been to Summit County in Colorado, you’re in for a real treat. It’s breathtakingly gorgeous.
The wedding is in Breckenridge — a small town and popular ski resort in the Rocky Mountains 9,600 feet (2,226 m) above sea level. With a small population (4,500), it’s heaven for both the outdoor enthusiast and the individual who wants some R&R.
We strongly recommend you stay in Breckenridge. It will make getting to and from the main event much easier. Plus, it’s a great home base for exploring Summit County and all the great areas in the region. We’ll be compiling more information about the area as the date gets closer, to help you plan your time in Colorado.
How to get here
By plane
You’ll likely need to fly into Denver International Airport (DIA) before you do anything else. A very efficient airport with a ton of flight traffic, you should be able to find some great flight options, even if you’re coming from an international location.
Some of the more inexpensive flights we’ve taken have been through Southwest and Frontier. Do note with Frontier, there are extra baggage charges.
By car
Should you decide you want to rent a car, this can be a great option for exploring both Denver and Summit County. The airport is about 30 minutes by car to downtown Denver, 2 hours to Breckenridge. It’s a beautiful drive. (We’ve typically found the best rates for car rentals are outside the airport at Fox.)
By public transportation
By no means do you have to rent a car to get around Colorado (although it does give you more flexibility).
If you’re looking to hang in Denver, you can take the Commuter Rail directly from the airport to downtown. It’s clean, super easy and costs $10.50 per individual, each way.
You can shuttle from Denver Airport directly to Breckenridge. Prices vary based on the company, here are a few options for you:
Last but not least, once in Breckenridge, there’s a great free bus system to get you around town. So no driving required unless you want to explore more of Summit County.
Where to stay
Here’s a list of local hotels where we have accommodation discounts (all through Vail Resorts):
- One Skill Hill Place
- Village at Breckenridge
- Mountain Thunder Lodge
- Crystal Peak Lodge
- River Mountain Lodge
When making your reservation, mention the code BD99LP and the Campbell-Pawell wedding.
For anyone without children, another great option is the Bivvi Hostel. It’s quite luxurious for a hostel (one room even has its own hot tub).
If you’re looking for more of a house, we strongly recommend finding an Airbnb or VRBO in the area. There’s a ton of great housing in the area for reasonable pricing. Plus, it’s fun to share a home with a big group!
(If you are looking for some people to share lodging with, reach out to us. We’d be happy to connect you with other friends and family.)
